Brighton Primary Art Show

Brighton Primary Art Show 2007

Our first ever art show in 2007 went exceedingly well. We received fabulous & glowing compliments regarding the success and professional staging of this inaugural event for which proceeds went to Brighton Primary and the Epilepsy Foundation of Victoria.

We estimated that approximately 500 visitors attended during the Friday and Saturday viewing days with the opening night attracting a further 120+ guests. There is no doubt our success would have been improved by opening on the Sunday, something that is being implemented for 2008. Features which included children's entertainment and a coffee shop complete with a professional barista all proved to enhance the overall occasion.

Gordon Pratt, Principal of Brighton Primary, purchased the first artwork sale of the event on behalf of the school. Brighton Primary is now the proud owner of a magnificent artwork by Nicole Parkins called 'Yearning Expanse' which is presently hanging in the school conference room. School children and parents alike are welcome to view the painting.

Nicole Parkins graduated from Fine Art in 2001 and has held solo exhibitions, completed an artists in residency in Sth. Australia and has taught art. Her passion for art continues to grow, a passion for which she plans never to stop.

"When making my way through the Australian landscape, whether it be farmland national, or state park, there is always a feeling of 'yearning' and of 'wonder' that creeps into my consciousness. This effect that nature can have over me and others can create in us the realization that we are part of something so big and so great, creating a fantastic experience over and over again. 'Yearning Expanse' depicts contrasts in the Australian rural landscape with its use of irrigation in some parts, compared to the dry and parched land where water is scarce. "
